PARC's Respite Care Center, located at 3004 W. Grenada Court in Peoria, provides temporary care to over 150 children and adults with special needs. Their families each come from all over Illinois knowing that our hightly trained staff and safe surrounding provides a positive, warm, and caring "home away from home" to individuals with developmental disabilities.

"Respite" Refers to short-term, temporary care provided to people. PARC's Respite Care Center provides short-term, temporary care, outside their home to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Unlike child care or adult day care programs, Respite Care services may involve overnight care for an extended period of time up to 30 days. Respite may be planned in advance or may be made available to assist in an emergency situation. Respite Care has many benefits including, enabling families to take vacations or just a few hours time off and helping prevent abuse and neglect.
Who does PARC's Respite Care Center serve?
Basic requirements for Respite include: diagnosis of a developmental disability, be at least two years of age, and live at home with parents or other family caregiver.
Other requirements include: person must not require skilled nursing care, pre-natal or maternity care. An annual physical must be on file with the Respite Care Center, and the individual must not be abusive to self, others or property and must not require seclusion or restraints.
PARC's Respite Care Center offers a safe environment in which caregivers can trust to provide a temporary "home away from home" for their special needs loved one. Respite Care has many benefits including, enabling families to take vacations, attend to a family illness, or just take a break. Parents and guardians are entitled to thirty days of respite care per year, at no cost to the family through the State of Illinois.
Reservations should be made at least two weeks in advance, and weekend, holiday, and summer reservations should be made well in advance to ensure availability.
Additional services offered at the Respite Care Center
PARC Respite Care Center also offers a before and aftercare program for children with disabilities who are enrolled in area schools. Family members are able to leave their child at the Respite Care Center on weekday mornings. Area public schools provide bus transportation to and from school. After school a snack is provided as well as activities and special outings. The cost of the before and after school program is $10 per day.
The Respite Care Center is licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Reservations should be made at least two weeks in advance to ensure availability. Extra time should be allowed when scheduling a stay over a weekend or during holidays.
